The world experienced serious inflation, and our country was unable to avoid getting involved. The inflation rate in our country reached 2.8 percent in May. The cost of basic household requirements has steadily increased, overwhelming low-income households.
The Malaysian Furniture Federation reported that the cost of the raw materials used to make furniture has increased by 10% to 40%. As a result, the average price of the furniture will climb by 20%. Every month, the cost of raw materials like hardware, wood, sponge, and fabrics rises, forcing the furniture business to raise the price of furniture to keep up.
The Malaysian Stationery and Book Industry Federation also noted that the government’s introduction of the RM1,500 minimum wage system, the hike in freight and postage, and the continuous depreciation of the ringgit have all contributed to a 5% increase in stationery prices.
The Malaysian Printers Association further said that since 2020, the price of paper has increased by 25% to 30% and will do so again next month.
People must limit their budgets in order to survive in this era of expanding department stores.
