Due to the inability to bear the various costs in the industry, express bus operators on the East Coast are expected to increase seat fares on premium buses by 42%.
“Sunshine Daily” reported that bus company Konsortium E-Mutiara (E-Mutiara) executive chairman Cheek Ibrahim said at the Islamic charity handover ceremony at the company’s headquarters that bus operators in other states have implemented measures to increase bus prices.
He said the East Coast bus operators had held discussions and agreed to implement the same measures.
“We will impose a fare of RM44. The current fare for economy seats on the bus is RM35, while the fare for premium seats is RM65. The previous price was RM44.”
He said that the seats in premium buses are two seats on each side of each row and one seat on each side, while the seats in economy buses are two seats on each side of each row.
He said that operators will not increase fares during the festive season and passengers can still purchase bus tickets at the old prices.
Che Ibrahim believes that bus operators have previously competed by lowering fares to attract passengers, but this situation cannot continue.
“Many other costs are increasing, including bus prices, parts and operating costs.”
