Since the night shift sees fewer customers, much food is typically wasted. A man currently working as an office worker in Tokyo reportedly worked as a night clerk at a 7-Eleven. At the same time, he was a student at a Tokyo university. He brought home three meals of leftover bento every day because he thought it was a waste of otherwise perfect food.
The man claimed his poor health resulted from purchasing “waste meals” from the supermarket. In the middle of his junior year, he suddenly noticed that his feet were swollen to the point where he had trouble walking. The man should cut down on his “waste meals,” the doctor said.
Although he no longer works at a convenience store, the man admits that there are times when he longs for the flavor of a convenience store bento. But he warned himself to limit the frequency and eat only once a week to prevent any further health effects.
He is now in his 30s and has successfully recovered and avoided a relapse.
