The cat’s owner, who lives in Jianghuzhou, Zhejiang, tracked it to Guangzhou, Guangdong, a distance of 1,600 kilometers, with the help of volunteers and police, after suspecting it had been stolen.

U.P.S. reported that Ms. Zhang’s cat, “Man Tou,” is a British Shorthair and is two years old, citing information from the Qianjiang Evening News.

Man Tou was returned to Huzhou for rest and recovery after her de-sexing. It is presumed to have escaped on January 5; cats in the country are free to roam and usually return on their own, but this one didn’t.

Ms. Zhang had placed a tracker on “Man Tou” when she was still a child; she later used her phone to confirm that “Man Tou” had indeed made its way to Jiangsu.

So she called the police because she thought the cat had been stolen or was riding in a “cat car,” but the monitoring police did not turn up any leads, so a report could not be filed.

It was noted in the report that Ms. Zhang kept examining the location data, which revealed that the Man Tou were taken from Huzhou to Jiangyin, Jiangsu, and then driven almost the entire way on January 5 without stopping.

Ms. Zhang and her best friend flew to Guangzhou after posting a plea for assistance on social media. With the help of volunteers, “Man Tou” was quickly located after Ms. Zhang arrived in Guangzhou.

It hurt so much that when I saw our ‘Man Tou,’ I saw him crying too.

Volunteers who assisted me in my search for the cat called it a “miracle” that I located it. Locators are worn by many cats today, but they are sometimes removed while traveling.

Ms. Zhang said it was a stroke of luck that the locator, which was fat and worn under “Man Tou’s” neck, had not been discovered.
