The total number of Covid-19 infections reached 2,605.
Following the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations last week, Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 instances continued to rise, reaching 2,605 new cases yesterday.
The CovidNow data from the Health Ministry also revealed a rising trend in instances over the past seven days in numerous states, including Labuan, which saw a 150 percent increase, and Perlis, which saw a 100 percent increase.
Kelantan (50%) increased its seven-day case trend, Terengganu (37% increased), and Kedah (37%) increased theirs (14 per cent increase).
In comparison, the seven-day case trend in Labuan increased by 50% yesterday, while the trend in Perlis increased by 40%.
However, as of today, the majority of the country’s seven-day case trend has decreased, with Putrajaya, Perak, and Sarawak seeing the highest decreases of 47%, 38%, and 37%, respectively.
Since May 3, the day following Aidilfitri, when the country recorded its lowest number of new infections this year, 922 cases, daily case statistics have been rising.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the director-general of health, has previously stated that a surge in cases would be expected following the festive season.
Meanwhile, 2,014 persons have recovered from the sickness, bringing the total number of current cases to 22,953.
In total, 4,463,740 cases of Covid-19 have been found in the country since the outbreak began.
Covid-19 claimed the lives of another eight people yesterday, including three persons who were brought to hospitals dead, increasing the total death toll to 35,590.
Covid-19 is being treated in hospitals in 5.4 percent of the country, with 1,250 patients admitted.
There are 67 patients in critical care units (ICUs), with 38 requiring ventilator assistance, putting the ventilator usage rate at 0.2 percent.
At the same time, 21,612 people are quarantined at home, with 24 others in quarantine centres.
