According to a news release from the Department of Land Transportation (JPJ), vehicle owners can renew their road tax 2 months in advance, that is, 2 months before it is due. The vehicle owner can choose to renew the road tax for 6 months to 1 year.
It is important to note that if the road tax has not been updated for more than 1 year, the vehicle will need to be sent to PUSPAKOM for an inspection process. After receiving the B2 inspection report from PUSPAKOM, the owner or representative can bring the B2 inspection report to JPJ to renew the road tax.
The road tax in Malaysia is calculated based on the engine capacity of the car, private cars of 1000cc or below will pay RM20 road tax per year, private cars of 1001 to 1200cc will pay RM55, 1201cc to 1400cc will pay RM70 and 1401 to 1600cc will pay RM90.
The calculation of road tax for private cars above 1601cc is different, the basic road tax for 1601 to 1800cc is RM200 and for every additional 1cc you have to pay RM0.40. The basic road tax for 1801 to 2000cc private cars is RM280 and for every additional 1cc you have to pay RM0.50.
For private cars from 2001 to 2500cc, the basic road tax is RM380 and for every additional cc, an additional RM1.00 is payable. 2501 to 3000cc, the basic road tax is RM880 and for every additional cc, an additional RM2.50 is payable. over 3000cc, the basic road tax is RM2130 and for every additional cc, an additional RM4.50 is payable.
