In the Dewan Rakyat, BUDGET 2024 was approved by voice vote during the committee stage. The government’s spending plan was the subject of deliberations for a total of twenty-five days. On October 10, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan introduced Budget 2024 for first reading. It was brought up for a second reading by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 13. Education and Higher Education were the final two ministries to conclude the committee stage talks. With RM2bil in contingency savings and RM393.8bil allocated for running expenses, RM303.8bil goes towards development, while the remaining RM90bil is for operating expenses. The budget for 2024 is titled “Reformasi Ekonomi, Memperkasakan Rakyat” (Economic Reform, Empowering People). Since the unity administration was formed in November 2022, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, has proposed two budgets. Anwar unveiled a revised Budget 2023 that totaled RM388.1bil in February.
