Areas of Miri and Subis affected by flood have improved.

As of yesterday around 5 o’clock, several flood-affected regions and highways in the Miri and Subis districts had greatly improved.

Captain (PA) Usman Harto, officer-in-charge of the Miri Civil Defence Force (APM), said that monitoring in flood-prone regions on Saturday following heavy rain overnight revealed that the floodwater began rising from 6am.

The Kampung Sungai Dalam, Lambir; Kampung Tudan Desa Aras Phase 6; and Jalan Persisiran Pantai Lutong in the Miri district were among the locations that were impacted.

The Subis district contained the neighbourhoods of Rh Sumob Lidam Saeh, Niah, Rh Albion Ngumbang, Kampung Sebalik Tiris, Kampung Pintasan Tiris, and Kampung Nusah.

However, APM members’ assessments on Sunday morning (Aug. 7) revealed that the flooding situation in these locations had greatly improved. Despite the overcast weather, the floodwater level in the Miri district had entirely subsided as of 5 p.m., while the most of the affected regions in the Subis district were still seeing a decrease to roughly a foot.

According to Usman, there hasn’t yet been a need for an evacuation. Due to the erratic weather, they will continue to conduct routine surveillance at these flood-prone sites.

The flood situation in various flood-prone regions has improved as of yesterday evening, according to reports from Bomba teams from Miri Central and Batu Niah fire stations, according to acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee of the Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The Jalan Miri-Pujut, Jalan Aiport Miri, Jalan Tanjung, Jalan Datuk Temenggong Lawai Jau, and Jalan Merbau sectors were not flooded, according to inspections carried out by the Miri Central Fire Station team, and traffic in these areas was under control.

The floodwaters have gradually subsided, according to inspections conducted by the Batu Niah fire station team in many Niah locations, including Jalan Sungai Saeh Merah, Jalan Sungai Saeh Putih, Rh Limbang Kanyan, Rh Ayai Sawing, and Rh Nelson Ningkan.
