Reports from “Sin Chew Daily” and “Oriental Daily” state that on May 19, 2023, a theft took place at a cafe in Taiping Lake Garden, Perak.

The cafe’s owner claimed that when he arrived to open the door at 9:30 a.m. as usual, he saw that the cafe’s unique mobile phone, the RM400 in cash in the drawer, and the RM200 contribution box for vulnerable children were all missing.

The cafe’s aluminum-framed glass sliding window next to the counter had been forced open when the owner came to check it.

He then looked at the CCTV to examine the thief’s traits. At 11:30 a.m., the cafe owner reported the incident to the police after determining that a man with a peaked cap broke into the cafe to commit crimes.

The cafe owner wasn’t informed that the cafe’s WhatsApp account had been mysteriously replaced with a young man’s selfie until 2 PM that day; he received the good news that the police had solved the case at 6:30 PM.

In this regard, the owner told the media about his conjecture. He claimed that after the other party stole the phone and swapped the SIM card, he immediately was interested in changing his profile image.

Considering the fact that the thief was unclear of how WhatsApp worked, the police were able to apprehend him within six hours thanks to the location of the stolen phone, CCTV footage, and directly fingerprints.
