According to George Town acting deputy OCPD Supt. V. Saravanan, a rice vendor in his 60s passed away after being stabbed 27 times at a Jelutong parking lot by unidentified assailants. He added that on Tuesday, December 5, while undergoing treatment at the Penang Hospital, Teh Teik Chye was pronounced dead owing to severe injuries to his neck and chest. Supt. Saravanan said that around 6:18 p.m. on Tuesday, there were reports of fighting in the vicinity. He also stated that a witness had seen a guy laying in the parking lot of a block of flats and had contacted the police and the victim’s next of kin. “Investigations showed 27 stab wounds to the chest, neck and abdomen of the victim, believed to be from a knife,” he stated. Supt Saravanan stated that the event is still under investigation and mentioned that two suspects were seen riding a motorbike into the residential area in CCTV footage that was taken from cameras near a lift and the apartment building’s security office. Later, as the other waited in the motorbike, one of them stabbed the victim. Since the suspect has a criminal history, we believe it may be a robbery or murder, but we are still looking into the reason,” he stated. According to him, the victim lived in the flat, had kids and grandkids, and worked as an economic rice vendor at the Perak Road public market. The matter is being investigated as a murder in accordance with Penal Code Section 302.
