According to the police chief of Hulu Terengganu, there was a flash flood on East Coast Highway 2 due to water overflow from a slope.
The flash flood that occurred at Kilometre (KM) 393 on the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT 2), from Ajil to Kuantan, and went viral on social media this morning has completely receded.
DSP Hasmeera Hassan of the Hulu Terengganu District Police said the incident, which occurred around 11 a.m. today, was caused by an overflow of water from a slope near the location.
However, he stated that no accidents or unwanted incidents occurred as a result of the incident and that vehicles can still use the road in both directions as usual.
The management of LPT 2 is currently conducting assessment and monitoring work at the scene, according to Hasmeera.
A 16-second video that went viral on social media showed overflowing water coming down from a nearby slope, filling the highway but allowing vehicles to pass through.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) issued a statement yesterday warning that floods were expected to hit several districts in Kuala Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman starting today, based on the simulation of the JPS flood forecast model.
