Selangor would be given first priority for 5G network upgrades.
Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa stated that the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) will prioritise Selangor in its efforts to deploy and improve 5G service networks.
According to Annuar Musa, there are three active programmes under the National Digital Network (Jendela) plan, the first of which is to expand the number of new 4G telecommunication towers, while the upgrading to 5G will be prioritised for the state of Selangor.
According to him, the other two Jendela programmes are to increase the number of houses with fibre optic connections and to convert the 3G transmitter system to a 4G system.
He said that Selangor had received a large allocation of RM5.34 billion under the Jendela project for the improvement of the state’s telecommunication system.
To date, the state has completed 313 new telecommunication towers, with another 35 towers still under construction.
Furthermore, a total of 7,197 transmitter stations have been upgraded to 4G, with 652 more in the works. “A total of 419,896 premises now have fibre optic connections, with installation work proceeding at 196,422 additional premises,” he stated at a moreh ceremony in Selangor last night, which was attended by leaders of K-KOMM agencies, departments, and strategic partners.
In terms of the Malaysian Family Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) project, he urged state constituencies that lacked a PEDi to apply to the government for permission right now.
In Selangor, 48 centres have been created and are currently operational.
