The use of heavy machinery at the site of the Batang Kali landslide was done with great caution.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation team used extreme caution when using heavy machinery at the landslide site at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, in order to avoid damaging bodies that were still under the earth.
Datuk Norazam Khamis, director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, stated that the team would initially dig or remove soil three or four feet deep to facilitate the detection of the victims’ bodies.
According to Norazam, the process was also overseen by a member of the rescue team, who provided guidance and instructions on how to excavate.
Eight excavators were deployed to ground zero as of this morning, and the number will be increased if necessary.
Norazam also stated that the rescue team received Ground Penetrating Radars from the Department of Survey and Mapping and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to aid in the search for the remaining victims.
The landslide tragedy at the campsite on Friday has claimed 24 lives so far.
