The number of flood victims at temporary relief centres has decreased.
Today’s flood situation in Johor, Perak, and Melaka is improving as less flood victims are being housed in temporary relief centres (PPS).
In Johor, the flood that struck the Batu Pahat district early on Wednesday morning as a result of the collision of heavy rain and high tidal phenomena revealed that the number of victims continued to decline, falling to 131 as of 8 this morning from the 164 people registered last night.
According to a statement from the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD), all 33 families of victims have been housed in a PPS at the local school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Gading, which has been operating since last Wednesday.
Taman Sri Panchor, Kampung Sengkuang, Kampung Baru Sri Gading, Pekan Seri Gading, and Kampung Seri Tanjung are among the districts’ affected areas, according to JPBD.
As of 9 this morning, 12 persons from three families were still housed in the Semanggol Hall PPS in Kampung Tengah Bukit Semanggol, which is close to Bagan Serai, according to a spokesman for the Perak State Disaster Management Committee.
Due to the total abatement of the flood and the favourable weather right now, all victims are anticipated to return to their individual homes today.
Yesterday morning, after several hours of persistent rain, Bagan Serai’s Kampung Tengah Bukit Semanggol neighbourhood was devastated by flash floods and forced to be relocated to the PPS, which opened at 12 o’clock.
In the meantime, Melaka saw a decrease in the number of flood victims housed in two PPS in Alor Gajah, from 29 individuals from nine families at 8 p.m. yesterday to 28 people from 8 families as of 8:30 this morning.
20 victims from four families were relocated to the Balai Raya PPS in Bukit Balai, according to a statement from the Civil Defense Force (APM) in Melaka, while eight victims from the same four families were accommodated at a PPS in Bukit Tambun.
Residents of Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai and Kampung Pulau, make up the impacted victims.
