Singapore’s Shopee lays off employees again!

 

According to a report by Singapore’s 8 Vision News, e-commerce giant Shopee has laid off employees again, with those affected coming from different departments. shopee declined to disclose the number of people affected, saying only that the employees in question represent a single-digit percentage of the company’s total workforce.

 

It is understood that the affected departments include HR, regional operations and marketing. Affected employees will receive an email from HR to schedule a one-on-one conversation.

 

A week ago it was announced that Shopee would be scaling back its South American operations , shutting down its local operations in Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and exiting the Argentine market altogether.

 

Earlier, Shopee’s parent company, Winter Sea Group (Sea), announced results for the year ending June 2022, with net losses worsening mainly due to a 62.8% year-over-year increase in the cost of revenue for its e-commerce and other services business. shopee’s orders have increased, but logistics costs have risen accordingly.
