A Singaporean woman has made news after receiving a Rolex for ten years of service as a cleaner.
Tan Ai Tee, 67, joined the Paradise business restaurant business in 2013. She began her career in the kitchen of its Seafood Paradise restaurant, where she sorted orders and served clients until it closed in 2016. She subsequently went to work as a cleaner at Paradise’s headquarters, where she worked from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. five days a week. She now refers to her coworkers at the company as “family.”
Tan’s Rolex, which costs over $10,000 Singaporean dollars (around RM 34,539), is not just her first Rolex, but also her first timepiece. She received the watch, along with 97 other colleagues, at an annual business function on March 6.
She had previously received 2.5- and 5-gram Suisse gold bars for her fifth and eighth years of service. She intends to present her new Rolex to her daughter.
Tan has no intention of quitting her job. Despite the fact that her husband, 76, has already retired, she wishes to continue working.
“As long as I am healthy enough to keep working, why not?” she told The Straits Times.
“I like waking up early and staying active. I think I will fall ill easily if I stop. I also feel very appreciated by the bosses here, so I intend to keep going as long as I can.”
Paradise celebrated 330 employees in its March 6 event, which received positive feedback online. Regardless of position, all 98 employees who served for at least ten years received a Rolex.
