The Welfare Bureau (Bantuan Warga Emas), or BWE for simple terms, accepts applications from seniors whose family income falls below the federal poverty level, according to the official website of the Malaysian Welfare Department (JKM). Those chosen will receive RM 500 in elderly support each month.
Those who qualify can register at the surrounding Local Welfare Office (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat). Following your application, officials may come to your house to do further investigation and determine whether you qualify.
Application conditions:
1. Malaysian nationals who live there.
2. Be 60 or older.
3. The family’s income is below the PGK poverty level of RM1,169.
4. Not residing in a retirement home or other facility operated by the Welfare Bureau.
