Malaysian can enjoy free ferry trips in Penang until June 2023.
Malaysians who take the speedboat across the Penang Channel will be able to do so for free between January 1 and June 30 of next year.
Penang infrastructure and transport committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari has decided to extend the free ferry rides for speedboat passengers.
Each month, approximately RM78,000 is allotted for a total of 65,000 tickets.
The free ferry ride programme was launched on July 1 of last year and received a positive response.
Malaysian passengers only need to register their MyKad at the ticket counter and tap their MyKad on the scanner to board the ferry for free.
This will encourage more people to use public transportation in Penang, which also has a free bus pass programme.
