The 3-day long Christmas weekend is over, when does the next public holiday fall?
This year Christmas falls on a Sunday, so together with the Saturday week off and the Monday make-up holiday, this creates a 3-day long weekend holiday. After the Christmas long weekend, the next long weekend and public holiday falls on January 1.
In 2023, New Year’s Day, January 1, falls on a Sunday, so most of the states in the country are entitled to a compensatory holiday on Monday, January 2, plus a weekly vacation on Saturday, December 31, which also makes up a 3-day long weekend holiday. However, this long weekend holiday does not apply to Perlis, Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and Johor.
If you are unable to enjoy the New Year’s Day long weekend holiday from December 31 to January 2, then the next public holiday is the Lunar New Year on January 22.
