46.2% of young people in Malaysia earn less than RM2,500 per month.
According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, the government is very concerned about the employment of young people as 46.2% of them earn less than RM2,500 per month and the government has taken various measures to solve the problem of low wages of young people.
The Prime Minister pointed out that under the JaminKerja program, the government will release RM4.8 billion to create 600,000 jobs. Employers will be given a monthly bonus of RM900 for up to 6 months if they hire apprentices and graduates between the ages of 18 and 30.
The Prime Minister also said that the government has launched a financing scheme totaling RM150 million for young people interested in starting their own businesses to apply for loans from BSN and AgroBank.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the ePemula e-wallet incentive program, which helped young people between 18 and 20 years old by giving them RM150 in e-cash.
According to information released by the Department of Statistics, the average income of young people between the ages of 15 and 24 is RM1,659 while the median income is RM1,468. The average monthly salary of young people between the ages of 25 and 34 is RM2,664 while the median monthly salary is RM2,001.
