There are 5 ways you can use banana peels to reduce environmental pollution. The huge amount of food waste emitted every year is said to be the main culprit in polluting the environment and the cause of huge wastage, especially of peels or seeds. In order to live with these peels, here’s how to live with banana peels and reduce pollution of the environment.
Makes meat softer and more tender
If you want to tenderise chicken or other meats, add banana peel to the pan when grilling the meat. This has the effect of preventing the meat from hardening or drying out during the cooking process.
For polishing leather and silverware
Rubbing the inside of a banana peel on leather shoes helps to polish leather, and if you mix banana peel with water and use it to polish silver, the tarnished silver will regain its original lustre.
As a fertiliser for tomatoes
If you have tomatoes indoors or in your garden, you can use banana peels as a fertiliser as they absorb nutrients well and can help with healthy growth.
Making it into vinegar
Firstly, the banana peel will harden and may have some pesticide residue, so boil it in water for a while. Mix the vinegar, brown sugar and banana peel in the same proportions, seal and wait for it to ferment. After almost 2 to 3 weeks, fish out the banana peel, dilute the finished vinegar with water and drink it like a beverage. If consumed consistently, it also helps with weight loss and fatigue recovery.
Livestock feed
Simply dry the banana peel in the sun, pound it to an edible size and offer it as feed to livestock kept at home, such as chickens, pigs, rabbits and cattle.
