According to Finance Minister, government subsidises RM1.65 per litre of RON95 petrol as the actual price of RON95 petrol is RM3.70 while government control the maximum price of RM2.05. This means that the government is subsidising RON95 petrol by 45%.
For diesel, the actual price per litre of diesel is already over RM4.00 based on international oil prices, and diesel continues to be sold at RM2.15 with the government subsidy.
Government has already subsidised RM11 billion on petrol in 2021 and is expected to double the petrol subsidy in 2022.
