[6 foods that can kill you] Including unripe tomatoes?!

20/10/2021

As we all know, eating unclean or spoiled food may lead to food poisoning and even death! Some foods naturally carry toxins that may cause the death of the person who eats them.

Wild mushroom

A mushroom or toadstool is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground, on soil, or on its food source. However, toadstools are actually considered poisonous mushrooms. To be on the safe side, it is always best to consider all mushrooms as poisonous unless you are an expert at mushroom identification. Poisonous mushrooms, when eaten, can cause serious illness and in some cases even death.

Dead Babylonia lutosa

Babylonia lutosa is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk, in the family Babyloniidae. Dead babylonia lutosa will cause bacteria to aggregate on it. The longer the time after they die, the more toxins will increase. When the toxins in the dead babylonia lutosa accumulate to a certain amount, humans get poisoned after eating it. There have been news reports that some people have food poisoning symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating unfresh babylonia lutosa. In severe cases, they have signs of dehydration, convulsions, and even shock.

Sprouted potatoes

As a potato sprouts, its glycoalkaloid content begins to rise. Sprouted potatoes that are still firm, have relatively small sprouts, and don’t show any wrinkles or shriveling are okay to eat, as long as you cut off the sprouted parts and soft spots. However, there’s still a chance you could get sick. Therefore, eating potatoes that have sprouted can cause you to ingest excessive amounts of these compounds. Symptoms typically appear within a few hours to up to 1 day after eating the sprouted potatoes.

Pufferfish

Almost all pufferfish contain tetrodotoxin, a substance that makes them foul tasting and often lethal to fish. To humans, tetrodotoxin is deadly, up to 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide. There is enough toxin in one pufferfish to kill 30 adult humans, and there is no known antidote.

Unripe Tomato

An unripe tomato that is still completely green does contain the toxic alkaloid solanine. This heat-resistant natural poison is found in all solanaceous crops, like potatoes. Just 25 milligrams of solanine is enough to make one feel uncomfortable: you get a headache and stomach ache and discomfort in your gut.

San-nakji is a variety of hoe (raw dish) made with long arm octopus. The octopuses are most commonly killed before being cut into small pieces and served. However, the octopus show a variety of reflex actions as the octopus is having highly complex nervous system. Because the suction cups on the arm pieces are still active when the dish is served, special care should be taken when eating sannakji. The active suction cups can cause swallowed pieces of arm to stick to the mouth or throat. This can also present a choking hazard for some people, particularly if they are intoxicated.

We must pay more attention when eating, especially do not eat spoiled food, otherwise, you will reap what you sow. Take care!!
