320k people have petitioned for the EPF withdrawal scheme.
320,000 people petitioned the government to implement a targeted EPF withdrawal plan, allowing designated groups to withdraw deposits from the fund.
According to “China Press,” the People’s Innovative Thought Organization has received 320,000 requests from people requesting that the government implement a provident fund withdrawal plan so that they can continue to survive at this stage.
Banks are said to have blacklisted about half of the 320,000 people, meaning they can only borrow money from usury when they need it. Other reasons for requesting withdrawals from the provident fund account include life stress, an imbalance in income and expenditure, and debts incurred as a result of the covid epidemic.
According to the People’s Innovative Thought Organization, 160,000 people in Selangor and 110,000 people in Johor requested to withdraw funds from their EPF accounts again, followed by Perak and Sabah.
When Prime Minister Anwar Anwar announced that he would also be Minister of Finance, many netizens urged the government to allow people to withdraw funds from their provident fund accounts once more.
The previous government implemented four EPF withdrawal schemes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, namely i-Lestari, i-Sinar, i-Citra, and Pengeluaran Khas. The i-Lestari plan primarily allows members to withdraw funds from the provident fund’s second account, whereas the i-Sinar plan allows members to withdraw funds from the provident fund’s first account. Members of i-Citra and Pengeluaran Khas can withdraw money from the provident fund’s first or second account.
