According to the news issued by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, the 2 sen rebate for household customers will end on June 30, 2022, so the new price list for next month, which is July onwards, will be announced soon.
Government currently bears the cost of RM715 million in coal fuel, while our country relies on coal for more than 80% of its electricity generation. Soaring international coal prices have added to the government’s financial burden.
Currently industrial and commercial electricity is only charged a reasonable surcharge, which is 3.7 sen per kilowatt hour (kWh). For domestic customers, they are entitled to a rebate of 2 sen on their electricity bills.
Since price of everything are rising, if the government chooses to raise electricity tariffs now, then this will add to the burden of living on the people.
