The King and Queen attend the 15th National Laureate Award Ceremony.

The 15th National Laureate Award Ceremony took place tonight with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in attendance.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah were welcomed by Senior Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and his wife Datin Balkis Zakaria as they arrived at the ceremony held at a hotel in this area at 8:45 p.m.

Additionally present were Prof. Datuk Seri Awang Sariyan, head of the 15th National Laureate Award’s top panel, and Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abg Shokeran, director general of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah were introduced to Datuk Rahman Shaari, the laureate of the 15th National Laureate Award, by Radzi.

Rahman was then given the prize by His Majesty before he finished reading his speech.

Rahman stated in his address that the focus and experience learning methods should be used to further streamline Malay literature.

He added that properly choosing the texts to be utilised in schools is also important. We have no reason to view literature as a topic that is beneath science or any other subject or stream if these two aspects are adequately developed.

Rahman received the 15th National Laureate Award, which includes the title of National Laureate, on June 22. He was chosen because of his long-term contribution to the growth of literature in the nation.
