KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 7 Lee Zii Jia has formed his own badminton club, marking the first milestone in his career.

The former All-England champion, who left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last month, has established the Lee Zii Jia Badminton Club in order to advance as a professional shuttler.

There was a lot of curiosity about who would be on Zii Jia’s team.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker also stated that Indonesian coach Indra Wijaya will work with Zii Jia.

Indra’s contract with BAM as national women’s singles coach expires on March 31.

BAM has indicated that they are willing to release Indra to help Zii Jia prepare for the All-England Championships on March 16-20.

“Thank you to the Sports Commissioner for approving the formation of the Lee Zii Jia Badminton Club,” wrote Lian Ker on Facebook.

“This would help Zii Jia appoint coach Indra Wijaya, whose contract expires on March 31.

“BAM are also ready to hand over the Indonesian coach to promptly help Zii Jia with his professional career development.”
