A man who was 20 years old was given a sentence of 12 years in jail and five lashes for assaulting his father with a helmet and a cane because his father would not give him cigarettes. The attack was because the younger man was angry that his father would not give him smokes.
The defendant, a 20-year-old man, was accused of hitting his 58-year-old father on the head with a helmet and a cane on January 7, 2023, at 6:28 p.m. at his home in Petra Jaya, causing multiple bone fractures, swelling of his left eye, a split lip, and chest pain.
The defendant’s actions violate Section 326 of the Criminal Code and are punishable under Section 326A. If found guilty, the person could go to jail for up to 20 years, get whipped, or pay a fine.
The police investigation showed that the defendant was violent with his father because his father didn’t give him the cigarettes he asked for and that his brother-in-law called the police.
