Non-Muslims can only legally marry if they are at least 18 years old, and those under 21 require parental permission, as stated in Articles 10 and 12 of the Malaysian Law on Marriage. An individual who has not turned 21 years old is considered a minor under the applicable regulations.

However, the same article also lists exceptions. If the state chief minister, state minister, or minister in the federal territory approves the girl for a marriage license, she can marry at age 16.
