You must make a police report for your lost IC!
According to a report by Nanyang Siang Pau, a young man surnamed Chan from Johor did not report the loss of his IC to the police. As a result, his IC was stolen and he owed a huge debt, and was also blacklisted by his bank.
The young man, lost his IC in 2015 and received it back from an unknown person in the mail three days later. At that time, he did not take it seriously and did not report to the police about the lost card. It was only after a year that he renewed his card.
In March this year, the young man received a letter from the lawyer of Transnational Energy (TNB) stating that he had applied for electricity supply from TNB in 2019 and owed as much as RM101,948 in electricity bills. After going through the details, he found out that the other party used his old lost IC to apply for electricity supply and that the contract was not signed by him.
In addition, the other party also used the young man’s IC to apply for a phone number and owed thousands of ringgit in phone bills. Not only that, the other party also used his IC to rent a room and owed RM8,500 in rent.
If you are unfortunate enough to lose your IC, you must report to the police at the first opportunity to avoid a situation similar to that happened to the young man.
