According to Bank Negara, any banknotes that were damaged during the flooding or in any case, can be replaced with the same value of banknotes at the bank. However, this also depends on the condition of the banknote.
If your banknotes are not badly damaged, you can get replacement banknotes of the same value on the same day. For severely damaged banknotes, the bank will need to evaluate them first which might take some time.
If you only have half of your banknotes left, then it is definitely not possible to exchange them for the original value of the banknotes. If your banknote is only torn at the corner or the color is peeling off, you can get it exchanged for a banknote of the same value.
The criteria for evaluating damaged banknotes and the value that can be exchanged
1. banknotes with more than two-thirds of their area intact (can be exchanged for the full value)
2. The damaged area of the bill is more than half of the area but less than two-thirds (can be exchanged for half amount)
3. The banknote is severely damaged or more than two-thirds of the area (not exchangeable)
4. The bill is lightly defaced with graffiti (exchangeable for the full amount)
5. The portrait of the head of state is graffitied on the bill (not exchangeable)
