Collect your receipts when you purchase mobile phones, computers and tablets to enjoy tax deductions when you file your taxes next year!
In order to encourage people to work from home, the government once again introduced tax reliefs up to RM2500 for the purchases of mobile phones, computers and tablets in 2021.
If you purchase a mobile phones, computers and tablets during 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021, you will receive a corresponding amount of tax deduction when you file your tax return next year, with a maximum tax deduction of RM2500.
This was on top of the existing tax relief that allowed taxpayers to claim up to RM2,500 under the lifestyle category, which includes expenditure on sports equipment, reading materials, Internet bills, and the same personal electronic devices. This means you can get a tax deduction of RM2500 + RM2500!
For example, if you buy a new mobile phone and new computer this year, you can get a tax relief of RM2500 for each of the two tax deduction items. What a money saver!
