27/02/2022

YES is still the only telecommunications company in Malaysia to launch a 5G network package, and TM is expected to announce its own 5G network package next month.

YES has already announced its 5G network packages at the end of December last year, and currently has a total of 2 packages available, namely YES Prepaid FT5G Unlimited and YES Postpaid FT5G RM49 packages.

YES Prepaid FT5G Unlimited provides unlimited 4G network data, the network speed will be limited to 7Mbps, and can also use unlimited 5G network data until March 31, 2022. This package offers 9GB Hotspot with unlimited dial-up to all networks. The monthly fee for this package is RM30.

YES Postpaid FT5G RM49 offers 100GB 4G network data and unlimited usage of 5G network data until 31 March 2022. Subscribers can dial up to all networks with unlimited access.

In addition, TM is the first telecom company to sign a memorandum of cooperation with National Digital Corporation (DNB), but has not yet launched any 5G network packages. Sources pointed out that TM is still testing the 5G network, and is expected to complete the test work and announce the 5G network package by the end of March.

Other domestic telecommunications companies Maxis, Axiata Celcom, Digi and U Mobile have asked the government to approve the establishment of a second 5G wholesale network, that is, a consortium in addition to DNB to build a domestic 5G network. The consortium must be composed of telecommunications companies. The government had not yet made a final decision by press time.
