Workers remember to file your taxes before 15 May!

12/04/2022

Have you filed your taxes? Employees with no business income are required to submit their BE tax return electronically by 15 May at the latest.

The deadline for Filing BE returns by hand ends on 30 April, with an extra 15 days for e-filing; In other words, the deadline for e-filing of BE tax returns is 15 May.

Late tax returns can be fined under Section 112(3) of the Income Tax Act 1967, depending on the date of the tax return.

According to the regulations of the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), if the monthly net salary of migrant workers after deducting the provident fund is RM3,141 or the annual income exceeds RM34,000, the employer must submit it to the Inland Revenue Board for the employee to register as a taxpayer.

It is worth mentioning that many people will ask whether they still need to file tax returns after their income decreased or even lost their job last year? In fact, as long as you have registered with the tax bureau before, you will need to file a tax return every year in the future, even if your income does not meet the tax threshold, or even if you are unemployed, you still need to file a tax return.

In any case, tax is not necessarily payable when you file tax returns. The government provides many tax-deductible items, so you only need to pay tax if your income exceeds the specified threshold after deducting tax deductions.
