Malaysia’s new Covid-19 infections have surpassed the 2,000 marker.

With 2,017 Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of infections in Malaysia has risen above 2,000 for the first time in two days.

The newest figure shows an increase of 320 cases over the previous figure of 1,697 new infections. The overall number of cases registered since the start of the epidemic in the country is currently 4,446,225, according to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal.

There are presently 29,971 active cases in Malaysia. Yesterday, seven people died of the sickness, three of them died before reaching hospitals for treatment.

With this, the total number of people who have died since the outbreak began has risen to 35,630. 

In the previous 24 hours, 2,548 people have recovered from Covid-19, increasing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,417,694.

In the last 24 hours, the hospitalisation rate has risen from 450 to 587.

The number of intensive care unit (ICU) cases grew slightly from 36 to 38, while the number of ventilated patients climbed slightly from 17 to 20. With 1,272 daily cases, the Klang Valley led the way, followed by Selangor with 850 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 383 cases.

Penang had the most incidents (145), followed by Negri Sembilan (129), Perak (92), Melaka (91), Kedah (64), Johor (61), Sarawak (51), Sabah (42), Putrajaya (39), Pahang (26), Terengganu (19), and Kelantan (13).

The only states with single-digit cases were Perlis (three) and Labuan (five). Sabah had the largest increase in the seven-day case average (44%) followed by Putrajaya (26%), and KL (22%).

Meanwhile, Perlis has a 44% reduction in the seven-day case average, followed by Kelantan (39%) and Labuan (29%).

There have been no new Covid-19 clusters reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 45.
