Will telecommunications companies reduce Internet fees again?

According to a message from the Minister of Digital Communications, Fami, the Ministry of Digital Communications is in discussions with telecommunications companies to reduce the cost of domestic telecommunications services. People, according to Fami, want to be able to sign up for Internet services at a lower cost.

When Gobind Singh was appointed Minister of Communications and Multimedia in 2018, he met with telecommunications companies and successfully negotiated a reduction in the cost of domestic broadband. Previously, 8Mbps Streamyx cost RM160, 4Mbps cost RM140, 2Mbps cost RM130, and 1Mbps cost RM110.

However, TM later reduced the price of Streamyx and began to replace it with Unifi. The Unifi 30Mbps costs only RM89, and the Unifi 100Mbps costs only RM129. The price is only RM299.

At the moment, the majority of domestic 5G network packages cost more than RM50. If telecom companies reduce the cost of 5G network packages or decentralise 5G network packages, many low-income people will benefit.
