WhatsApp is testing new features. In the future, we may be able to transfer 2GB of multimedia files!

01/04/2022

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that will allow users to transfer multimedia files up to 2 GB in size! In fact, WhatsApp users are now able to transfer files of up to 100 MB. WhatsApp is currently in beta testing and will be pushed out to all users only after making sure there are no bugs.

Only users in South America are currently participating in the test.

For now, only some users in South America can participate in the test, and the number is said to be very limited. The Android versions that can participate in the test are 2.22.8.5, 2.22.8.6, and 2.22.8.7, and some iOS users can also participate in the test.

It is reported that the current file size limit that can be transferred is 100MB. Once WhatsApp’s 2GB file transfer function is released, it is expected that other platforms will also consider increasing their own file transfer limits, such as Gmail, which now has a file limit size of 25MB, and Twitter, with a limit of 1GB.

The new phone camera functions have been very advanced today, including having large pixels, even more than a billion pixels. The size of the picture and video files is very considerable. If the transmission pipe size limit has not been expanded, it may cause inconvenience to the user. If you want to transfer files through these platforms, you may need to compress or take other measures.

In any case, this feature of WhatsApp is still very “new” and it is too early to say anything, so we can only wait for the good news that may come to us after the end of the test.
