We are ready to launch VTL to Penang, Sabah and Sarawak with Singapore!
According to the news issued by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, we are ready to implement the Vaccinator Travel Corridor (VTL) for direct flights from Singapore to Penang, Sabah and Sarawak once the Singapore government agrees.
At present, the Malaysia-Singapore Vaccinator Travel Corridor (VTL) is only applicable to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), as well as the Malaysia-Singapore land border crossing. The government has discussed with the Singapore government to expand the VTL to the states and is only waiting for the Singapore government’s approval.
The government has submitted the proposal, although the Omicron variant strain has become a stumbling block for VTL. Both governments have already opened the VTL on 29 November 2021 and there were talks of expanding it to Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. With the invasion of the Omicron variant strain, the Singapore government requested the suspension of VTL measures and announced on January 21 the resumption of VTL and a reduction in the number of arrivals.
As of January 27, the country had 5,439 new cases in a single day.
