UTM organises 43 buses to carry 1,600 students home for GE15.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) announced that it has arranged for approximately 1,600 students to return to their hometowns and vote in the 15th general election (GE15).
Prof Dr Shamsul Sahibuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs), stated that a total of 43 buses, including three university buses, would be used for this purpose.
Those interested will only need to pay between RM20 and RM50, depending on the location of their respective hometowns. Aside from the three buses owned by UTM, the remainder are commercial express buses rented by the university.
After collecting the names of undergraduates interested, Shamsul said the university’s student representative council handled the preparations. The bus transportation was not profitable for UTM.
The initiative aimed to help those who wanted to return to their hometowns and villages to fulfil their duties for the GE15 on November 19. It saves the student money because a bus ticket to my hometown in Penang costs RM75, whereas a plane ticket costs RM150. It’s a good thing because most of the bus tickets sold online have already sold out.
