Twitter experienced internal changes after being acquired by Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of the American electric car giant Tesla, and it now appears that even the distinctive blue bird, which has been used for over a decade, may be replaced, along with a name change!
As the owner of the social media company Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk recently voiced his desire to replace the blue cartoon bird logo with an “X” emblem. He intends to incorporate payment, banking, and commercial functionality as soon as possible.
“Soon, we will bid farewell to the Twitter brand and gradually say goodbye to all birds,”
he said in a midnight tweet, implying that the origin of the word “tweet” is coming to an end.
“If the X logo we posted tonight looks good, we will use it globally starting tomorrow.”
He did not, however, provide any other information.
Linda Yaccarino, who was hired as CEO of Twitter by Elon Musk last month, also tweeted on Sunday (23rd), saying,
“Under the impetus of artificial intelligence (AI), X will connect us in ways we have only just begun to imagine.”
“X represents the future state of infinite interaction—a global market for creativity, goods, services, and opportunities centered around audio, video, messages, payments/banking.”
According to a 2014 New York Post report, Twitter was formed in 2006 and utilized the bluebird as its emblem at first, but it wasn’t until 2010 that it was formally registered as a trademark. The name “tweet” was inspired by the sound of a bird chirping, as the founders believed that the sound’s brief and rapid frequency corresponded with the core of the network, therefore dubbing it “Twitter.”
The current “Blue Bird” was conceived in 2012 by Doug Bowman, the company’s Creative Director at the time. Larry the Bird is its nickname, and co-founder Biz Stone confirmed this in a tweet in 2011, noting that the “Blue Bird” Larry the Bird was a tribute to NBA star “Big Bird” Larry Bird. Hall of Famer “Big Bird” Larry Bird was a Boston Celtics player in the 1980s, and Biz Stone grew up in the Boston region.
Previously, Elon Musk altered the website’s blue bird emblem to a dog head design, which was considered another significant decision in the aftermath of Twitter’s massive layoffs and restructuring. This action also increased the value of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin by more than 30%. However, this was only a temporary modification, and Twitter’s logo quickly reverted to the famous “Blue Bird” motif.
