Last Wednesday (12th), Tom Cruise’s highly awaited seventh part of the renowned “Mission: Impossible” series, titled “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” officially opened in North America. The film has made a good start at the box office, grossing an estimated $80 million (roughly MYR 360 million) in its first five days and securing the top place, breaking the franchise’s prior opening records.
The film has also done very well worldwide, grossing $155 million (about MYR 700 million) outside of North America, for a staggering global box office total of $235 million (roughly MYR 1.06 billion). This is the highest-grossing global debut for the “Mission: Impossible” franchise to date. However, due to the ongoing strike by the American actors’ union, Tom Cruise was forced to cancel his planned promotional trip to Japan on September 17th. Furthermore, the production of “Mission: Impossible 8,” which is presently underway, has been declared to be halted. It’s unclear whether these delays would affect the projected June 2024 launching date.
