How much do you know about nasopharyngeal cancer? Nasopharyngeal cancer is not an uncommon disease in Malaysia.

Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is a type of cancer in which cancerous cells grow in the nasopharyngeal tissues. The nasopharynx is located in the upper part of the nose and back of the throat.

Common symptoms of NPC include nosebleeds, ringing in the ears, lumps in the neck, unexplained headaches, double vision and more. Here are some tips on how to prevent nasopharyngeal cancer.

How to prevent nasopharyngeal cancer

1. Stay away from toxic gases

Avoid inhaling insecticide aerosols, paraffin lamp gas, second-hand smoke, etc.

2. Watch your diet

Don’t be partial in your diet, eat more vegetables and fruits and take more vitamins. Try not to eat foods containing nitrosamines, such as pickled salted fish, salted pickles, salted meat and canned foods containing nitrosamines. Some surveys have shown that eating salted fish in children under 10 years old increases the risk of developing nasopharyngeal cancer.

3. Stop smoking

As we all know, cigarettes contain nicotine, which is absorbed by the bronchial tubes of the mouth and nose during smoking, thus triggering nasopharyngeal cancer.

4. Strengthen your resistance

Avoid overworking and reduce late nights, excessive physical training and heavy physical work, which will result in reduced resistance.

5. Avoid disease

Pay attention to climate change and prevent colds. Pay attention to oral and nasal hygiene.
