TM has joined a consortium to build a new submarine cable system that will connect Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and western Europe.

TM announced that it formed a consortium with several telecommunications companies to build a new submarine cable to connect Southeast Asia to Western Europe, which will pass through many countries in the Middle East.

The new submarine cable, codenamed SEA-ME-WE6, will connect Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, Amman, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and France.

The landing station of SEA-ME-WE6 in Malaysia is Morib, Selangor. The SEA-ME-WE6 can provide a data transfer rate of 100Tbps with a total length of 19,200 kilometers. The first quarter of SEA-ME-WE6 is expected to be completed by 2025.

Telecom companies joining in the SEA-ME-WE6 submarine cable program include Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Bharti Airtel), Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun PLC (Dhiraagu), Djibouti Telecom SA (Djibouti Telecom), Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily), Orange (France), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel), Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT), Telecom Egypt (TE) and Trans World Associates (TWA).

TM has also invested in SEA-ME-WE3, SEA-ME-WE4, and SEA-ME-WE5 submarine cables previously. TM currently owns and leases 30 submarine cables worldwide with a total length of more than 320,000 kilometers.
