A woman driver convicted of a night-time crash illustrates the importance of a driving recorder. Have you installled one?
A Car Recorder is mounted on the front windscreen of the car and records images and sounds of the car on the road via a high-definition camera. When an accident occurs, the driver can immediately produce evidence to protect his or her rights.
However, there are dozens of brands and hundreds of different products available, with varying prices and different features.
Here’s some tips of choosing a suitable car recorder.
1. Lens resolution
The lens should be at least 720p, preferably 2k or 4k resolution. Otherwise, if you can’t see the number plate on the blurred video.
2. Filming angle
The angle of filming is marked on the lens of the CarLog. The camera angle varies from 70° to 270°, how do I choose? We recommend that you choose an angle of at least 120° in order to get the whole front of the car in the picture. Angles that are too large, such as 270° instead of wide angle, tend to be prone to distortion and blurred edges.
3. Good night vision
You don’t just drive during the day, you’re on the road at night too. Therefore, you must make sure that your car recorder can capture images clearly even at night.
4. Must have loop recording
A car recorder must have a loop recording function that automatically deletes the oldest images when the SD card is full, allowing the recorder to continue to run and capture the latest images. In addition, more advanced recorders can separate the pre-crash (or emergency braking) footage into a separate folder to bypass the system’s auto-delete function.
5. Memory card / RAM
If you are shooting 1280 X 720 HD video, 1GB of memory will only hold about 15 minutes of footage, so it is recommended that you have at least 32GB or 64GB of memory.
6. Other features
Some recorders can even be used when the car is off and will automatically start recording once they detect movement ahead, and others have features such as shock, storm or sun protection.
