Tips for RFID refuelling at Shell stations!

11/08/2022

Owners are required to lift fuel nozzle within 80 seconds, if they do not have time to lift the nozzle, the system will terminate the RFID refuelling process after 80 seconds.

Touch ‘n Go eWallet has officially launched the RFID refuelling service at 88 Shell stations across Malaysia, and will increase to 200 stations by the end of the year. There are currently two RFID-enabled pumps at these Shell stations, and Shell does not rule out the possibility of increasing the number of RFID-enabled pumps.

Upon arrival at the designated pump, the system will automatically read the vehicle’s RFID tag and deduct the refuelling fee from the Touch ‘n Go eWallet connected to the RFID tag.

Based on the message sent by the Shell station, the system will automatically read the vehicle information once the owner arrives at the RFID-enabled pump. Once the vehicle information has been successfully read, the owner has 80 seconds to lift the nozzle and fill up.

If the owner does not have time to lift the nozzle within 80 seconds, the system will automatically terminate the process. Any money previously deducted will be returned to the owner’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet within 10 minutes.

If the owner wants to refill at the same pump, the owner will need to pay for the refuelling by cash or credit card and will no longer be able to use RFID to pay for the refuelling.

If a vehicle owner insists on using RFID to pay for refuelling, he/she can wait until another vehicle owner has successfully refuelled at that pump and then try again to refuel at that pump using RFID.

In addition, if the owner’s mobile phone network is down, the owner can also refill the tank at the Shell station using RFID as usual. However, the owner will not be notified immediately when a refill is made.
