Those who allow underage children to drive will face severe consequences.

Under the Road Transport Act, anyone who enables a youngster or teenager to drive faces severe penalties, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

Not only will the driver face consequences, but the car owner will also face severe penalties for negligence and inflicting injury to others. According to Wee, the adolescent does not have a driver’s licence or insurance coverage, which could result in harsh punishment if convicted.

He was referring to an accident that occurred yesterday on Jalan Pintasan Semeling in Sungai Petani, Kedah, in which a grasscutter was killed and another was injured after being bulldozed by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) operated by a 16-year-old boy.

The juvenile has been arrested for further investigation, according to Kuala Muda police commander ACP Zaidy Che Hassan.

Meanwhile, Wee stated that global crude oil prices have risen dramatically as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in inflated aircraft ticket prices.

He did say, however, that the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has been requested to keep an eye on the price hikes.
