There have been 6,968 new Covid-19 cases, including 16 deaths.

In the previous 24 hours, Malaysia has recorded 6,968 new Covid-19 cases.

The latest figures show an increase of 899 cases over the 6,069 new illnesses reported the day before.

With this latest statistic, the total number of cases reported in the country since the outbreak began has risen to 4,409,202.

According to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the director-general of health, 32 cases were imported today, comprising 24 Malaysians and eight foreigners.

According to Noor Hisham, the remaining 6,936 instances recorded locally involve 6,718 Malaysians and 218 foreigners.

Dr. Noor Hisham further stated that 97 patients are currently being treated in critical care units (ICUs) across the country, with 58 of them being confirmed to have Covid-19 and the remainder 39 being suspected, probable, or under investigation.

He stated 63 of them required ventilator support, with 38 of them being Covid-19 positive patients.

He further stated that 16 people died yesterday as a result of the fatal disease, with eight of them dying before reaching hospitals for treatment.

According to him, the total number of those who have died since the outbreak began is 35,465.

He also stated that in the last 24 hours, 8,267 patients had recovered from Covid-19, increasing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,283,031.

Only 31 of the 6,968 instances today are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, which necessitate hospitalisation, according to him, while the rest are in Categories 1 and 2.

Four new clusters were recorded yesterday, according to Dr. Noor Hisham, bringing the total number of active clusters in the country to 106.

The Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-naught or R0) in Malaysia is now 0.84.
