The vendor was criticized for selling RM3.50 for a packet of rice, saying it was a bad market.
The vendor was selling a packet of nasi lemak for only RM3.50, but the price was such that she was criticized for “doing a bad job in the market”.
According to the vendor, Nuruhima, who shared her story on social media platforms, the nasi lemak she sells can be served with different side dishes such as fish or prawns in sambal sauce, or ayam masak merah (Malay sweet and spicy chicken), but the price is always RM3.50 sen.
She said a man came to her stall the other day and asked her if she was selling a packet of nasi lemak for RM3.50, to which she replied in the affirmative, but the man’s ensuing conversation left her deeply puzzled.
The female vendor revealed that she had been criticized for selling food at too cheap a price and for “doing a bad job in the market”.
“The male customer asked me if it was intentional to sell a packet of nasi lemak for only RM3.50, and whether selling it so cheap was to ‘spoil the market’ by attracting customers to the stalls so that the other vendors would not have any business,” he said.
“He also suggested that I should raise the price to RM4.50 a packet, in fact, I really don’t care to take care of this kind of picky customer, and finally gave him a packet of rice for him to try, if he thought it’s good he can come back to patronize.”
