The price of a 5kg bottle of cooking oil has been soaring and has now shot up to about RM45!
Commodities around the world have been increasing in price in recent years, and palm oil is no exception. Since mixed cooking oil is not regulated by the government’s Uniform Product Control, the price of a 5kg bottle of mixed cooking oil has soared to about RM45.
To address the problem of soaring prices, the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs (MTC) has since last year set a TUP price for pure palm oil, with the top retail price of RM6.70 for a 1kg bottle, RM12.70 for a 2kg bottle, RM18.70 for a 3kg bottle and RM29.70 for a 5kg bottle.
Attention! Pure palm oil edible oil is generally referred to labor brand (Cap Buruh), Seri Murni, Saji and V-sawit, etc. As for blended cooking oil, it is generally a mixture of palm oil, peanut oil and sesame oil. Red Eagle oil, Neptune oil and Knife Label oil are all blended cooking oil.
The 5 kg bottle of mixed cooking oil initially cost only about RM20, then soared to about RM38, and now it has increased again to about RM45.
