The number of flood evacuees grows as three additional districts in Sabah are affected by flooding.

There are 3 additional districts in Sabah are affected by flood.

Apart from Kunak and Penampang, three other districts, Tenom, Keningau, and Sipitang, were devastated by floods in Sabah yesterday afternoon, bringing the total number of flood victims in the state to 724, comprising 201 households, up from 75 (14 families) this morning.

According to a statement from the Sabah Disaster Management Committee’s Secretariat, seven new relief centres (PPS) have been opened to accommodate flood victims in the affected districts, including three in Tenom and two each in Keningau and Sipitang.

Previously, two PPSs were established, one in Kunak and one in Penampang. In Tenom, a total of 298 victims (80 families) were evacuated, with 259 of them, representing 71 families, receiving shelter at the PPS in Rumah Kebudayaan Makakagas and Rumah Kebudayaan Gunting (10 victims from two families).

In Keningau, 296 victims from 87 households were evacuated, with 199 victims (40 families) being transported to the PPS at Dewan Gereja Kampung Senangang and the remainder (97 victims from 47 families) being sent to the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan Keningau 2.

In Sipitang, 55 flood victims from 20 households were evacuated to the PPS at Dewan Mini Mesapol (47 victims from 18 families) and the PPS at Dewan Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Cina Chung Hwa Mesapol (47 victims from 18 families) (eight victims from two families).

The PPS at Dewan Kampung Airport Tun Fuad PPS in Kunak, which opened two days ago, still has 66 victims from 13 families, while the PPS at Kelab Kompleks Sukan Penampang, which opened early this morning, has nine people.

Meanwhile, the Dainage and Irrigation Department reported on its website that the water level in the Pegalan River in Ansip, Keningau, exceeded the danger level this morning but returned to normal this afternoon, while the water level in the Padas River in Tenom rose to the warning level of 176.91 metres (m) from 157.57m in the morning.

The Sabah Public Works Department noted in a statement that Jalan Amboi 1 in Tenom is closed due to flash flood damage and encouraged the public to take an alternate route on Jalan Tenom-Kuala Tomani.

The Beaufort Road in Menumbok has been restricted to light vehicles due to the overflowing water from Sungai Padas. Residents should choose alternate routes on Jalan Limbawang Bypass.
